Andrew Hanna: Team New Orleans

Yesterday I didn’t know how to start a blog and today I still haven’t figured it out. I woke up extra early today and ate breakfast quickly so I could have more time to do quiet time. The passage was Revelations 21:1-8. It was about the new Holy City and all its glory. It reminded me of us rebuilding New Orleans and God using us to bring about change in this troubled city. My group’s morning work was yard work with a foundation called Beacon of Hope. They called it yard work, but it was more like jungle work. The grass had not been cut since the hurricane and was taller than anyone there. The jobs ranged from chopping branches to —hold on, Ashraf is knocking at the window and wants to get into the house because its raining outside and now he is asking me why i’m blogging twice. I told him that if I blog once then its not a blog but an overall summary of the trip, which is not what this is— to picking weeds.  Anyways, the yard was a mess and it was really God’s doing and none of the group members. Funny Story: We were using a weed wacker to cut the grass in front of the house and the guys in charge of the foundation whose equipment we were using were just standing and watching us doing nothing. After about 2 and a half hours of weed wacking grass the one the guys pulls out a lawn mower from the truck, drags it over to the yard and says to me, “This might help you guys” ……. I wonder how long it took him to figure that out. Well, I guess 2 and a half hours. Anyways, in the afternoon we had VBS (vacation Bible school) where we went to a park and played and talked with the kids there. Most of the kids were friendly although there were a few trouble makers. One kid I will never forget was Troy. He was a 5th grader and was obsessed with breaking a world record. I asked him which one and he said anything. He’d randomly start standing on one foot and say “I think the record for this is about 10 days”. He told me that he reads his Bible with his grandmother and that it was his favorite book. It is truly amazing what a little love can do for a person, especially children. Anyways, Sherry (whose is here with me waiting to write a blog) is moving nervously which probably means she wants me to hurry up but is too nice to say it, which means that if I don’t hurry up Ashraf will yell at her for not yelling at me to hurry up. So this is me not hurrying up so that we’ll be late which means Ashraf will get mad which means Sherry will be yelled at which will very much make my day.  :)

  3. Hi Andrew,
We miss you, God bless you all. Well, it seems you are getting experience in lawn work and you are enjoying it. I will make sure when you come home, you continue to enjoy this experience, so i fired our lawn company. If you have spare time, learning other handy man talents is desirable. Do not forget to share the experience with David.
