Today in Haiti began with a reflection on some of the things we saw around us yesterday, mainly because we were still in awe of the level of poverty that exists in this country. Perhaps poverty isn't even the right word to describe it because it goes beyond the description of the word itself.
What we saw yesterday, children left seemingly desolate, burned an image in our hearts that left some of us questioning the very foundation of our belief that God Himself hasn't also left these children. It wasn't just the conditions of where these orphans live, it wasn't even the fact that these children are left without the basis necessities for life - food, water, clothes, and care; it was that deeper question that was pulling on our hearts after we left yesterday, Why? "Why God?" echoed in our hearts throughout the night. Today we were greeted with the answer to that question.
Today God showed us exactly how abundant His love truly is. He showed us that all He needs us to do is show love and care for His children and He will take care of the rest. He showed us exactly how He could satisfy all their needs. Today He didn't simply provide them a meal, today He sent them a truck load of food. Today He didn't give them water to drink, today He sent them more water than they had room to store. Today He provided that orphange with laborers to build a kitchen and people to prepare a garden for them to grow more food. Today we witnessed what "exceedingly abundantly" means when God provides, and we saw smiles like we've never seen before.
